Overview

The R&D Intern-Measurement Technology will work as part of a team to evaluate the electrical and optical hardware used to make physiological measurements.  The intern will work closely with experienced R&D Engineers and Technicians to perform lab measurements and to create new test setups and procedures.  We are looking for a hands-on individual who is interested in learning more about precision optical measurements and low noise analog hardware and can apply his or her knowledge to develop creative solutions to test and measurement challenges.

 

Location: Plymouth, MN (considering local candidates only)

Position TypeThe internship will be for 12 weeks (40 hours/week), approximately June through August 2018. 

   

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop test methods to characterize optical and electrical system components.
  • Perform evaluations using standard electronics lab equipment and optical measurement systems.
  • Use software automation and hardware fixtures to make the tests easily repeatable.
  • Write software to control custom hardware, create GUIs, and/or perform data analysis.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Education & Experience:

  • Sophomore level standing or higher in engineering course work leading to a Bachelors of Science degree in an engineering discipline from a four-year college or university
  • PC programming experience in C or Python
  • Working knowledge of the C programming language for embedded processors 

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Familiarity with lab equipment including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working hands on with electronics
  • Previous work with spectroradiometers
  • Experience creating GUIs
  • Basic understanding of Labview

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for 8 hrs/day.
