  • Overview

    The R & D Manager of Mechanical and Electrical will lead a cross-disciplined engineering team responsible for the design of new products and enhancement of existing products including adaptation of products to support OEM partners. Manages technical staff and coordinates engineering efforts with other product development personnel to ensure that projects achieve defined endpoints.


    Essential Job Functions

    • Develop and manage a robust engineering design team ensuring the skills of the engineering staff are current.
    • Facilitate ongoing growth and development of team members by encouraging learning from successes and failures and providing timely feedback. Identify high-performers and provide opportunities to grow skill set within current roles.
    • Excite team to experiment and collect new information in pursuit of delighting the customer.
    • Provide technical direction and design guidance
    • Foster an environment where individual contributors can exhibit a strong sense of ownership, agility, and courage.
    • Assign engineering staff to development projects, matching the skills and talents of engineers to project needs ensuring assigned projects or objectives are achieved and following applicable Nonin development procedures.
    • Coordinate with Marketing to create and release requirements documents for new product initiatives or to update requirements for product enhancements.
    • Coordinate with management and the PMO to set prioritization of supported projects.
    • Interface with other departments and Nonin’s leadership team to communicate status of projects.
    • Review technical reports and recommend modifications or adjustments in order to meet specifications.
    • Assess equipment and engineering toolset requirements to achieve objectives and facilitate budgetary planning.
    • Provide regular tracking of department expenditures to budget goals.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    Required Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in relevant technical discipline and 10+ years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    •  Engineering design experience as a member of a product development team
    • Demonstrated engineering leadership skills with the ability to motivate high performing teams
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Capable and comfortable with presenting to both technical and non-technical audiences
    • Understanding of and experience with ERP, PLM and PDM systems
    • Experience working with medical device compliance to FDA and international standards
    • Skilled at multi-tasking and time management 

    Preferred Qualifications:

    •  Supervisory experience of engineering personnel
    • Cross-discipline engineering experience
    • Manufacturing engineering experience
    • Quality engineering experience   


    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to sit, stand and/or walk for 8 hours/day.
